Pete McKee’s Multi-Coloured Snap Shop
A one day only pop up event.
Saturday 9 April - Moor Market Sheffield
The team behind Pete’s summer holiday themed show, ‘6 Weeks to Eternity’ are taking over a stall at the Moor Market in Sheffield for the day and inviting you to bring your old photos of the 6 weeks holiday and to share memories of those lost summers.
Everyone is welcome to attend and all you need to do is bring in a photo of your favourite memory of the 6 weeks holiday. The team will then scan these into the computer whilst you wait. Whether your holidays were spent bored at home and getting up to mischief or on holiday at the coast with the family, Pete would love to hear your memories.

This is a picture of me back in the sixties. We used to spend our annual holiday every year in Blackpool. We stayed in the guest house owned by my Aunt Gert and Uncle Ted. Spending our days on the beach, putting at Gynn Square and on the boats in Stanley Park. Those days were priceless, it was an age of carefree innocence.

Our summer holidays usually involved a fortnight camping in France. This started with a middle of the night wake-up call and sleepy transfer to the car in our pyjamas for the drive to Dover. The car was rammed with stuff; my brother sat in the boot propping up the cool box or camp stove.

Here is a picture of me and my family at Rycroft Glen, Dore. We went here alot in the 6 weeks holidays for picnics and countryside walks. It seemed so far away from Woodseats! Mum (Jean Richards) is learning to drive the family car and I (Angela Greenwood) am posing for the camera in my best tracksuit whilst ignoring my annoying little brother (Matt Richards). Dad is taking the picture. Taken in the early 80s. Happy days!

Mothers, Aunties and kids on a Canklow Working Mens Club Trip to Skegness circa 1958. I’m the third from the right on the front row. We are on the front at Skeggy. Club trips were wonderful fun. They stopped the coaches at a cafe halfway there and handed each kid a fizzy orange and crisps (to give you something to be travel sick with on the last bit of the journey? Always worked for me!)

My memories of the summer of 73 listening to David Bowies ‘Life on Mars’ on my Binatone cassette recorder in its black leather carrying case. I was enjoying my fish and chips sat outside the photo shop at Chapel St Leonards Robin Hood Camp when a nice female photographer decided to pop out of the shop and take this snap of me wearing my favourite tank top, Wrangler jeans, red socks and black polished brogues.

Cornwall with Dad and Mum, walking from the beach after building sand castles with my Uncle Brian. We’d just been buzzed by three low flying fighter jets, I think I’d cried so much that they decided to take me to the B&B (the kind you paid up for throughout the year at the WMC, remember those!?) c.1985

6 weeks hols in the early 80’s. My sister and me with our best friends who are also sisters, hanging out in their dads ford cortina outside their nan and grandads on the Arbourthorne. We were never apart and are still all best friends today. I can still smell the lovely smell of that car….

Me (I’m the smallest), my sister Karen & my cousins David & Alan. This was taken in Newquay in 1968. One of our favourite parts of the holiday was to go mackerel fishing & then our Mums would fry them for breakfast. Happy memories.

The 6 weeks holidays for me were spending days at my nannan’s with my cousins, wearing matching dresses with my sisters, playing on the back garden because we weren’t allowed in the house whilst the sun was shining (plus my mum and her sisters & mother we’re playing cards) and having ‘corporation wine’ to drink (we weren’t allowed a hot drink until we were 16 at my nannan’s) Very, very happy days.
